Nanoscience Journal Club organized by CNM Postdocs |
|
Posted Aug 23 by gsandi |
Dear Postdocs,
I would like to draw your attention to newly established Nanoscience Journal Club, organized by CNM postdocs. We meet every other Wednesday at 4:00PM in Bldg. 440 (Conference Room A105) to discuss recent papers with specific focus on nanoscience. The CNM Journal Club alternates with CNM Nanoscience Colloquium held at the same time on alternative Wednesdays, so you are in for a good treat by showing up at random Wednesday at 4PM. And if you are early, you are welcome to join us for CNM Tea & Cookies that take place in CNM cafeteria at 3:30pm every Wed - good opportunity to socialize/network with other scientists, including fellow postdocs from CNM and other divisions.
Our next meeting is next Wed, Aug. 29, when Craig Fennie will be a discussion leader. The paper of choice is "Carrier-mediated magnetoelectricity in complex oxide heterostructures, " J. M. Rondinelli, M. Stengel, and N. A. Spalding. The paper discusses a novel mechanism to obtain a linear magnetoelectric at the interface between a dielectric and a spin-polarized metal.
We are an interdisciplinary bunch - ranging from physicists and chemists to biologists and materials scientists. And even though the club is organized primarily by CNM postdocs, everyone (including students or senior people from CNM and other divisions) is welcome to attend, or (better yet) volunteer to present/discuss a paper of your choice in one of the future meetings.
Unlike colloquium or seminar style presentation we keep things very informal, and focus on back-and-forth discussion, rather than presenting.
For more information on past and future Journal Club meetings and Colloquia check out:
http://nano.anl.gov/events/index.html
You can also subscribe to future postings via email here:
https://lists.anl.gov/mailman/listinfo/cnm-seminar
Please also note that there exists yet another (!) Journal Club/brownbag lunch organized by postdocs in Chemistry/MSD, typically held on Mondays at 12:30 pm in room L-152 in Bldg 200.

POSTING TO FORUMS |
|
Posted Aug 13 by sptadmin |
Hello all -- For a topic to be created, you have to go through me, so feel free to email me if there is a topic you'd like to be created. However, you can, of course, reply to the already existing threads by doing the following: on the right hand navigation box, click forums. Select the forum of your choice. Next, enter the individual topics by once again clicking the blue lettering with the topic name (for now, there is only one topic per forum). Now you should see the previous posts. Click on "post message" to create a message with a subject and body that will be available for everyone to see. For example, if you'd like to comment about the September 7th pizza party, you'd click Forums on the far right, then "Lunches, Pizza Parties, Picnics," then "Pizza Parties," then Post Message. Do not hesitate to email me if you have questions; sopcak@anl.gov. |
How to Sign Up |
|
Posted Jul 11 by JakeSop |
On a tab to the right, below login and password, there should be an option to sign up. After filling out some information (not all fields required), submit the request, and you should receive an email with your login you chose and a randomly generated password. NOTE: USE YOUR ARGONNE EMAIL ADDRESS TO SIGN UP. The server this portal is running on can only send email locally, so if you enter an email not related to the Argonne domain, you will never receive your password. When you log in the first time, you can check preferences on the right side tab and change your password to your liking. Any questions, do not hesitate to email me at sopcak@anl.gov. Enjoy the portal! |
